What is GMAT??

The full form of GMAT is The Graduate Management Admission Test. It is basically designed to test the knowledge of an individual in various sections such as Quantitative, Analytics, Reasoning, writing and comprehension etc, for the admission into courses such as MBA. The test scores are considered by almost 2100 Business schools in India and abroad altogether for admission. The validity of the GMAT scores is for 5 years. It is one of the sort after competitive exams which the candidates prefer attending after CAT for admission to the Management Schools.

 

GMAT: Process of Registration

GMAT Exams are conducted all through the year. The candidates who are interested need to first check the University/B-Schools Details of Admission and accordingly schedule for a GMAT Test online. The candidate should plan to get the scores ahead of the admission process so that the details of the scores can be sent to the Admission Institute. These are the steps of registration for GMAT Exam:

  • Visit the Authorized official page of GMAT @ http://www.mba.com/india
  • Click on the “Register” Tab to schedule an Exam.
  • Fill in all the required details and create a Log ID and Password.
  • After creating an ID, GMAT Fee has to be paid through online payment options. The Fee towards the exam is approximately Rs. 15000-16000.
  • Candidate can now schedule the exam date and place to give the exam.

GMAT: Exam Pattern and Syllabus

The GMAT Exam is conducted all through the year and the candidate can schedule the exam according to their feasibility. There are mainly four sections on which they are tested on namely: Quantitative Skills, Verbal, Reasoning, and Writing. It is a computer based multiple choice questions exam which is conducted for 3 and half hours. The scores obtained in GMAT is considered for admission to foreign universities, the score varies for different universities, some of the top B-Schools consider 710 scores and some consider 600 GMAT scores for admission. Following is the Syllabus details of the exam:

Writing Assessment: This section generally tests the ability of a candidate on writing skills on a particular topic. An argument or Passage/Comprehension will be given, the candidate needs to answer based on the argument. The total time allowed for this section is 30 Minutes.

  • Section: Analytical Writing Assessment
  • Question Type: Analysis of Argument
  • Duration allocated: 30 minutes

Integrated Reasoning: This section of GMAT has 12 questions from the portions such as Multi Source Reasoning, Graphics Interpretation, Two Part Analysis, Table Analysis. The total time allotted is 30 minutes. Integrated Reasoning is tested to see how well you evaluate the data to solve complex problems.

  • Section: Integrated Reasoning
  • Question Type: Multi Source Reasoning, Graphics Interpretation, Two Part Analysis, Table Analysis.
  • Duration: 30 minutes

Quantitative: The quantitative section of the exam is designed to test the knowledge of an individual based on the data using reasoning skills. The test pattern is no different than the higher secondary pattern of exam. This section includes questions from Data Sufficiency and Problem solving portion. The duration is for 75 minutes and there will be 37 questions based on the pattern.

  • Section: Quantitative
  • Question Type: Data Sufficiency and Problem Solving
  • Duration: 75 minutes

Verbal: This section comprises of 41 questions from the Reading Comprehension, Critical Reasoning, Sentence CorrectionThe duration allotted is 75 minutes.

GMAT: Scores and Results

The GMAT score ranges from 200-800. The Maximum Score is 800 and the Lowest is 200 scores. There is different percentile allocated depending upon the scores obtained. Scores are valid for five years. Candidates can view the scores as soon as they finish the exam. There is an option of rejecting the scores or accepting the scores, if the person accepts the scores both the parties (Candidate and Institute) will be able to view it however if it’s rejected then nobody will be able to view it. The main certificate with scores can be downloaded from the official website of GMAT with the candidate personal login and password details 20 days after the exams.
